What a paradox: climb the steps to make the lowest bass sound in your life. Built in 1850 by French luthier Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, the octobasse (or octobass) is an enormous string instrument that is capable of creating sound at a frequency of 16 Hz, which is lower than humans are capable of hearing. Check out as curator Colin Pearson carefully demonstrates a playable replica tuned two octaves at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. In the other video you will see some musicians taking turns trying out their own versions of the theme from Jaws.
