The Most Photographed Places on Earth

Where people tend to click the camera button the most.

Created by Estonian computer scientist Tanel Tammet, this map uses data and photographs from Panoramio, Google’s discontinued geo-located tagging, photo sharing mashup.

This means that it’s obviously biased toward the demographic of people who once used Panoramio.

However, it does give you a sense of where people go when they want to photograph something famous or culturally interesting or visually spectacular.

The pins on the map are the “hottest” places, i.e. where most photographs have been taken.

The top 10 are:

2. Rome/Vatican City
3. Barcelona
4. Paris
5. Istanbul
6. Venice
7. Monaco/Monte Carlo
8. Florence
9. Buenos Aires
10. Budapest
