Hunter Finds Lost GoPro Camera Filled With Footage Recorded by a Curious Bear

Recording your latest TikTok or YouTube video can be quite challenging, and apparently it is just as hard for bears as it is for us.

While out in the wilderness archery hunting, hunter Dylan Schilt stumbled upon a GoPro that had been lost while snowmobiling. After taking it back to his camp and charging it up, he switched on the camera only to be greeted by – a bear. It turned out the animal had shot some surprising and hilarious video clips, seeming equal parts curious and confused by the tiny recording device.

“After four months of it sitting there, a big old black bear found it and not only managed to turn it on but also started recording himself playing with it,” Schilt explains in a Facebook post he shared with the GoPro footage. “Hands down the craziest thing I’ve ever found!”

The footage is over four minutes long and shows what appears to be an American black bear playing with the GoPro by both tossing it around with its paws. For the first 90 seconds of the video, it also tries to pick up the camera with its mouth. When it finally manages to do so, it turns the front of the camera towards its face, resulting in a basic video selfie of a sort.

Some parts of the footage show extreme close-ups of the inside of the bear’s mouth, possibly the best glimpse one will ever get of a black bear’s rather intimidating teeth unless one is attacked by one. Eventually, the bear appears to lose interest in the GoPro, which is then shown resting peacefully and unattended.

Although the shots show an abundance of snow, there’s none on the surrounding trees. The little snow there on the ground appears quite wet as well, lending credibility to Schilt’s proposed timeline of late spring.

It is unclear if the bear at any point thinks the GoPro is food or is simply curious about a device it had never come across in its natural environment.
