Woman Lives With Wrong Dog For Four Months After Groomers Make a Little Mistake

Although the owners noticed there’s something different with their dog after getting it back from the groomers, they didn’t notice it was a different dog altogether.

Groomers have a tough job for several reasons, the most excruciating one being that many dogs simply hate to be washed, have their nails trimmed, ears cleaned, glands expressed, and then be dried with a blower. It’s a physical and frustrating job both for the groomer and the animal. So unsurprisingly, sometimes there are mishaps occurring here and there.

But then, some mishaps are bigger then others. Consider this one: a woman says that after her groomers mixed up her dog with another one, she lived with the wrong dog for four months – proving that grooming can be painful even for the owner. Apparently, when she took her dog (a German Shepherd Newfoundland cross) to the groomers for a soothing trim before the summer, they inadvertently mixed the animal up with another dog that looked similar.

“When we got her back from her hair cut she began to act very strange,” the woman wrote.

“Physically, she was identical but mentally she was not there. She began to get more aggressive (She bit my hand when I would feed her scraps, or she wanted my attention), ignore people whom she knew and was acquainted with (this dog bonded to me and ignored my father, brother, and neighbors), and she changed her entire routine with the family.”

According to the woman’s account, the dog would usually be extremely attached to her father, and experience anxiety when he was away. So when the dog – Emma… well, not Emma – came back from the groomers, the owners attributed the dog’s anxious behavior around the family to the fact that the father was absent. No one suspected that the dog behaved strangely because she had ended up in a strange house where she didn’t recognize anybody.

“For Four months. For Four months I’ve been taking care of and loving this dog I was calling Emma who looked exactly like my dog but somehow different from the Emma I once knew,” she explained.

At one point, her mother got a call from the groomer, asking her to bring Emma to a meeting at her shop immediately. Why? Well, another owner had just complained that their dog – named Bear – had been acting anxiously since their last grooming session. Sure enough, the owners were reunited with their original dogs shortly afterwards.

“Their dog is my dog’s almost identical twin sister from the same litter,” she explained. The groomers were sorry (really) and gave a big basket of gifts to Emma and her owners, by way of an apology.

Sorry, but we can’t help imagine those groomers had a good laugh too:
