What would dead celebrities look like if they were still with us today? As if nothing happened…
Turkish photographer and lawyer Alper Yesiltas has created a series called As If Nothing Happened that brings pop culture icons back to life – at least virtually. He uses various AI-based software to create these hyperrealistic images, including Remini, an AI photo enhancer, and a range of photo editing programs such as VSCO and Lightroom. The result is a portrait that feels “real” to him – as if the person still existed in the real world.
Yesiltas is excited by the opportunities artificial intelligence creates, as with it, “anything imaginable can be shown real.” He used it to create what would make him the happiest: to see some of the people he missed in front of him again. Thus, celebrities including Princess Diana, John Lennon and Janis Joplin – and even Michael Jackson, as if he had never gotten plastic surgery – came back from the dead in the wake of his work – at least for a virtual moment, for us to see how they would look today.
