Turkish Soccer Fan Banned from Stadium Rents Crane to Watch the Game

Known affectionately as “Yamuk Ali” (Quirky Ali), he faced a one-year ban from entering Denizli Atatürk Stadium. On April 28, Denizlispor was playing an important home match against Gaziantepspor. Ali, unwilling to miss the action, came up with an unconventional solution: he rented a crane for 354 Turkish liras (around €70) and positioned it outside the stadium. From his elevated perch, Ali waved a large green and black flag—the colors of Denizlispor—and led chants for the team.

Speaking to the Turkish press about his actions, Ali further explained his unyielding commitment, declaring that “the bans can’t stop our love for Denizlispor.”

“That match was very important for our team (Denizlispor). I had to go to the police station to sign a paper to show that I am not watching the match in the stadium. Then I quickly went to rent the crane,” he told Turkish outlet Yeni Asır.

Ali’s act of devotion resonated with fans and drew widespread admiration. “He is Ali, whatever he does is appropriate,” his fellow supporter said.

The sight of him cheering passionately from atop the crane quickly drew attention beyond the stadium walls too, with photos and videos spreading rapidly across social media. According to Yeni Asır, his bold move became a topic of national conversation, with some describing it as a heart-warming example of how far a fan can go to support their team.

However, Ali’s unique viewing platform did not last the entire match. Local authorities intervened, ordering him to lower the crane. Despite this setback, Ali remained upbeat, especially as the game ended with Denizlispor triumphing 5-0 over Gaziantepspor. His dedication not only uplifted the spirits of his fellow fans but also added a memorable chapter to the story of the club.

The Turkish press also noted that Ali had considered watching the match from a balloon. With his ban still in effect, it leaves everyone wondering what creative approach he might come up with next.
