We’ve all seen images and footage of Mars, but have you ever heard Martian sounds?
Did you know that sound behaves differently on Mars compared to Earth? Due to the difference in atmospheres, sounds on the Red Planet possess distinct characteristics, being somewhat muted.
NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover is equipped with two microphones designed to record sounds on Mars. Since its touchdown in February 2021, the rover has successfully captured various sounds, including those of dust devils, the buzzing of the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter during flight, and the noise produced by its wheels traversing the rocky Martian landscape.
