You Have to Shake Your Head to See This Illusion

So, just shake your head! (from side to side while staring at the vertical lines)

Did you see him?

How about him??

Alright, if you want to avoid getting a headache or are sitting in an office and don’t want your colleagues to think you are crazy, there are several alternative methods to view these illusions.

If you’re on mobile, you can of course shake your device too. But that may also attract curious looks.

A possible alternative is to move the picture on your screen back and forth. This method imitates the movement you desire without causing physical discomfort.

If the previous strategy is ineffective, you can attempt to observe the photograph from various viewpoints, although this may attract some curious looks.

If none of the previous techniques are successful, zooming out on the picture might be helpful. By viewing a smaller version of the image, the subject should become more visible.

Now, let’s try some more. Can you recognize who’s hidden in the images?

Got them? Yes? Now, how is this all possible?

The high contrast between the black and white lines causes our perception to disregard the subtle mid-tones in the white areas. Our visual system tends to react more strongly to sharp contrasts than gradual variations.

Optical illusions provide a fascinating illustration of the imperfections in our visual system. Despite our assumption that what we see with our eyes is the truth, it is actually a product of information received from our surroundings and processed by our visual system for interpretation by our brain.

So don’t believe what you see.
