Baby Cows Wear Earmuffs in the Winter To Keep Their Ears From Freezing Off

Did you know cow earmuffs were a thing? Well, they are, big time.

Baby cows are of course cute, but there’s something that’s even cuter: a baby cow in earmuffs! As these images prove, in the winter farmers often put specially designed earmuffs on their cows to protect their ears from frostbite. Due to their age and size, newborn calves are more susceptible to the cold, so they need some extra help to stay warm in the winter – and do so in style. Because these earmuffs are not only incredibly practical, but they’re absolutely adorable, too.

When Twitter user Rob N Roll found out about cow earmuffs, he shared photos of the creative little garment in action. As you could guess, the post went viral, receiving over 300,000 likes and almost 50,000 retweets. People were simply enchanted by the cuteness of the endearing doe-eyed faces of calves wearing colorful, hand-knitted earmuffs.

Some commenters jokingly asked where they could get a pair for their own pets, and some even asked for a pattern so they could make some themselves. One user helpfully drew attention to a Wisconsin-based company called Moo Muffs that manufactures and globally distributes a water-resistant nylon and fleece version of the earmuffs. There are also independent makers on Etsy and elsewhere that are getting in on the trendy new farmwear.
