We’re excited to celebrate 10 years of sharing information and engaging with our community. Over the years, we’ve published countless articles, guides, and resources, and some of them have resonated with you more than others. Today, we’re taking a trip down memory lane and highlighting our top 10 most popular posts, the content that truly sparked your interest. So, whether you’re a longtime follower or a new visitor, dive in and discover the best of what we have to offer!

But before we delve into the top 10, let’s have a look at how it all started. On March 6th, 2014, the Mission launched with this post:

As the post says, Earthly Mission had an antecedent (in Hungarian), Spacemaker’s X-Files, which I thought was long gone, but thanks to the Wayback Machine, I was able to retrieve a snapshot from when I closed that blog and started Earthly Mission. You can view it here. It’s really old school and had some great stuff too. Wow, the internet doesn’t forget…

Anyway, when I closed that old blog 10 years ago and started Earthly Mission, I was only hoping that the journey I was beginning (and continuing in a sense) would be so long and fruitful. In the decade that has passed since then, over 3,000 posts have been published on the site, garnering tens of millions of page views from many millions of visitors. Helping my work was my beloved wife, assisting with the website in the first years, my dear friend MKL, the design magician and IT guru behind making the Mission go big eventually, and content writers like Vili Molnar, who have contributed many great articles over the years. Oh, and let’s not forget Lajos Nagy, who painted the scene with the Earthly Mission ufonauts approaching earth, that you can see in the first post! I want to thank them all for their amazing input! And I want to also thank you, dear reader, for staying with us for so long! Without you, we definitely wouldn’t be writing this post!

With almost 78,000 shares, this fascinating illusion located at the southwestern tip of the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean has understandably grabbed our readers’ attention. 9th Place: Alien Facehugger Mask

Alright, this one is a bit different, as it’s from those days when the whole world was spending its days in quarantine with the outbreak of the COVID pandemic – remember? Yes, one of the reasons why this post gathered almost 100,000 shares definitely had to do with the fact that it helped people vent their frustration that was also reaching epidemic levels. Yes, laughter always helps.

8th Place: Old Lady Feeds Squirrels With Marionette of Herself

This is probably one of the most beautiful stories ever published on the Mission, and our personal favorite. The image of the old lady feeding squirrels with a marionette that is also her… Wow, only life can produce such scenes… And the story behind the image is equally touching – over 100,000 people have thought so too, and deemed it worthy of sharing.

7th Place: Wolves Have Their Countries Too

Did you know that, similarly to humans, wolves also have their countries? Well, sort of. This post is based on a GPS image by the Voyageurs Wolf Project showing how some wolf packs tracked by them avoid each other’s range. Interesting stuff – not surprising it went viral on different social media, including Twitter. Oh, and 130,000 people shared it too.

6th Place: 32,000-Year-Old Plant Revived

This narrow-leafed campion probably wouldn’t have captured anybody’s attention if it wasn’t the oldest plant ever to be “resurrected”… Yes, it was grown from 32,000-year-old seeds, beating the previous record by some 30,000 years. And it garnered 135,000 shares, beating the previous contender by about 5,000. 5th Place: 28,000-Year-Old Mammoth Cells Brought Back To Life

The next on the list (we are now in the Top 5!) is another prehistoric specimen brought back to life. But this time, it’s nothing less than a woolly mammoth. Alright, one cell of it only, but many people (including us) rightfully regarded this as a first step to Jurassic Park coming true. So much so, that 165,000 of them even shared it on social media. 4th Place: Monument in Russia Painted to Look Like American Cartoon Characters

This one was a real flash in the pan, garnering almost 267,000 shares in a relatively short period of time, and then it just stopped. Could the war in Ukraine have to do with it? I don’t know. But the scene of the standard Soviet WWII monument you saw in every city of the Eastern blog turning into a bunch of American superheroes and cartoon characters, including Superman, Joker, and their likes, certainly has its charm (or harm) even today (many people thought it was disrespectful towards all the fallen soldiers, and they have a point).

2nd Place: Greenland Sharks Up to 500 Years Old Discovered by Scientists

Oh, the 400-year-old shark, as we used to call him while this post was going viral on the Internet. It’s incredible to think that this guy and some of this fellows could have been around when the Mayflower set sail from England for the New World in 1620. And even earlier. Like when Columbus set sail from Spain in 1492, eventually ‘discovering’ the New World (well, for Europeans, it was definitely new). Not surprisingly, this amazing animal has captured the imagination of many of our readers, and almost 320,000 of you have shared our article about it. There’s a video to go with this one too, with some very rare footage of the Greenland shark!

1st Place: The Only Dinosaur Mummy Ever Found

And the winner is, with 410,000 shares, is the dinosaur mummy! Discovered accidentally by miners in Canada, this fossilized nodosaur dates back over 110 million years, and remarkably, its skin still retains visible patterns.
